This year the race is changing venues, and will be held at Frenchman’s Bar in Vancouver Washington. The race itself will be in the Columbia River, and what many may not know is that the fishing season is now closed on the Columbia. For many years, when the race was held on the Willamette River, a lot of the challenge was to negotiate the turns as well as the fishing fleet. The 2013 race promises to be an entertaining challenge.
The new venue is a welcome location. Frenchman’s Bar State Park has ample parking, plenty of room to off-load Hawaiian Canoes for weighing, and a staff that is more willing to help the event move forward.
Pacific Outrigger is excited about the event, and even more excited to see all of this years teams at what is traditionally the opening event of the Long Distance Hawaiian Canoe racing season in the Northwest.
